new map 2021.jpg

On the map below, we have highlighted some of the most popular paddle trails that leave from our new shop location.

Red line- This is the shortest trail around the protected sand bars and estuaries around the new shop. *Do be advised, Pelican Island(with the flag pole directly in front of shop) is private, therefore off-limits; but you can visit the sand bars surrounding that area.

Skill Level- Beginner

Paddle Time- 5 mins or less

Pink line- This paddle trail will lead to some of the protected estuaries up near the mouth of the White Oak River. During low tides, between the bridges you can find large sand flats and calm, shallow tidal pools full of wildlife ready to explore.

Skill Level- Beginner

Paddle time- 5-10min

Royal Blue Line- This is an easy paddle trail to an island that once had squatters living on it, but now that it is abandoned, it's a great place to explore around and carry a trash bag out to help us get it cleaned back up. This route will allow you to see the historic Swansboro downtown waterfront.

Skill level- Beginner

Paddle time- 10-20mins

Lime green line- When the winds are fair, this paddle trail is one of our most popular routes. It will take you out to Jones Island, a popular up-river extension of Hammocks Beach State Park. Here, you will find secluded little white sandy beaches beside great calm water swimming holes and beautiful, grassy, shaded areas to explore on the inside.

Skill level- Beginner- intermediate (depending on weather/tides)

Paddle time- 20-30mins

Teal Line- This paddle trail will lead you to a protected bay in front of Huggins Island, where there are endless amounts of estuary marshland to explore. Huggins Island used to be home to a Civil War era Confederate battery, and is considered a maritime freshwater swamp forest: a globally rare phenomena that habitats a wide variety of sea and land life.

Skill level- Beginner-Intermediate (depending on weather/tides)

Paddle time- 15-20mins

Purple line- Shells and shark teeth/fossils abundant! Any of the many spoil island beaches along this paddle trail are likely to lead you to sharks teeth and shells.

Skill level- Beginner-intermediate- (depending on weather/tides)

Paddle times-5-40mins, depending on which island you go to.

Orange line- Bear Island, Hammocks Beach State Park is an expansive sandy beach. This is our longest paddle trail, and we highly recommend planning this trip in accordance with the tides (we can help with that). The beaches here are often less crowded and the shelling is awesome.

Skill level- Intermediate-advanced (depending on tides/weather)

Paddle time- 1.5-2.5 hours.

Yellow highlighted area- It is not recommended to paddle this far away from the shop, as there are plenty of great areas to explore within the map's guidelines without fatiguing yourself.
